Despite a second-round exit at the Australian Open,
Sania Mirza was back among the world’s top 50
by gaining five spots to be at 48th place
in the latest WTA Tour rankings.

Sania Mirza was benefitted by the drop in rankings of Americans
Shenay Perry and an out-of-scene Venus Williams, as well as
Russian Elena Vesnina. Shikha Uberoi, the next highest Indian
in the rankings, dropped 20 places to be 228th.

Sania's maiden singles win at the French Open has seen the Indian tennis ace rise eight places to 42 in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday, 11 June 2007.
Sania Mirza, who was 50th last week, has 546 points. The 20-year-old has, however, slid in the doubles chart, dropping four places to 41st.
The Indian ace will next be seen in action at this week's $200,000 DFS Classic in Birmingham, where she will take on Maria Elena Camerin of Italy in the first round.
