Feb 5: Sania Mirza's Ranking Slips. Sania Mirza has
slipped one place to 49 in the singles charts of the
latest WTA Tour tennis rankings. Sania Mirza was off
the courts last week and this minor backward step
had more to do with the big jump of Australian Nicole
Pratt who jumped 20 places to occupy the 45th spot.
Sania Mirza is playing this week in Pattaya, Thailand.
Maria Sharapova held her position at the top of
the table followed by Justin Henin and Amelie Mauresmo.

Russian Elena Vesnina. Shikha Uberoi, the next highest Indian
in the rankings, dropped 20 places to be 228th.

Sania's maiden singles
win at the French Open has seen the Indian tennis ace rise
eight places to 42 in the latest WTA rankings released on
Monday -11th June 2007.
Sania, who was 50th last week, has 546 points.
The 20-year-old has, however, slid in the doubles chart, dropping four places to 41st.
The Indian ace will next be seen in action at this week's $200,000 DFS Classic in Birmingham, where she will take on Maria Elena Camerin of Italy in the first round.
